España, Cádiz y el Bicentenario de la Constitución de 1812, “el Doce”

 

Este taller pretende dar a conocer a los participantes la importancia de la Constitución de 1812 de España y cómo y por qué se ubica en tal momento en la historia y en tal sitio, la ciudad trimilenaria de Cádiz.  Por medio de debates, recursos audio-visuales, la música y diversos recursos digitales e impresos, examinaremos la riqueza cultural y la importancia de Cádiz en aquel momento y a lo largo de la historia para llegar a comprender la importancia del Bicentenario de la Constitución, el llamado “Doce”. Se hará referencia a temas importantes de la Guerra de Independencia de España, la época napoleónica, la prensa libre, el comercio, etc.  En trabajo de grupo los participantes podrán crear actividades pedagógicas/lúdicas para usar en el aula. Se entregarán varios recursos sobre el tema. Se ruega a los asistentes que traigan un flashdrive.

This workshop will acquaint the participants with the importance of Spain’s Constitution of 1812, as well as how and why it came about and particularly, why it happened in Cádiz! Through discussion, video, music and a variety of digital and print resources we will discover the cultural wealth and importance of this city both at the time of the Constitution and throughout its 3,000 year history and we will gain an insight to the Bicentennial in 2012.  Participants will also gain insight into the relevance of the Independence War, the Napoleonic Era in Spain, the free press, commerce in Cadiz and more. Working in small groups we will create a variety of imaginative activities for the classroom. Many resources will be provided to the participants. It is recommended to bring a flashdrive.

 

 


Los asistentes que cumplan todos los requisitos recibirán certificado del Ministerio de Educación de España y del Departamento de Educación de Massachusetts (PDPs) – ESTE TALLER ES GRATUITO

 

Participants who meet all requirements will get certificates from both the Ministry of Education of Spain and the Department of Education of Massachusetts (PDPs) – THIS WORKSHOP IS FREE

NSE Awards Ceremony, Mass Bay Chapter
Mood:  happy

On May 28, 2008 the top winners in Massachusetts of the AATSP National Spanish Exam, their teachers and their families were honored at Regis College at a special banquet organized by the Mass Bay National Spanish Exam Coordinators Patricia Donahue McElhiney and George Watson.  Students were congratulated with speeches by the Stephanie Cuddeback Salim, President, AATSP Mass Bay Chapter and Spanish teacher, Matignon High School; and Patricia Donahue-McElhiney, Mass Bay NSE Coordinator; and Dr. Dr. Mary-Anne Vetterling, Professor of Spanish, Regis College.  George Watson, Dept. Head, Foreign Languages, presented the awards to each of the students.

AATSP Member is Massachusetts Teacher of the Year

George Watson López, long-time AATSP member and for many years co-chair of the NSE for the Mass Bay Chapter, has just been recognized as the Massachusetts Teacher of the Year, 2009.  He has been head of the Foreign Language Department at Walpole High School since 1980 and has given numerous presentations at foreign language conferences, focusing on the use of music in the classroom.  This is a great honor and achievement for foreign language teachers, especially for Spanish.
